The most important thing I learned about creative process this semester is planning. Artwork takes a long time and it has been a long time since I had to work for deadlines and for works that are not my personal project. The most important thing I learned about color theory is probably the color scheme, because it's a big difference when you consciously make the decision about your color palette than simply following your instinct. Knowing and understanding various color schemes can make your art look more professional. My artwork has grown over the course of the semester along with my other personal project. It was really nice to be back to painting every day, and to challenge myself and paint and create works outside of my comfort zone.

What are the most important things you've learned about your creative process? I think the most important part I’ve learned this semester is the value of keeping one quality sketchbook with me at all times. In the past, I’ve used anything that could be printed on, including random wood offcuts, and notebook paper. It’s difficult to date my past ideas, and drawings, sketches, etc. and even find in the plethora of papers that fill boxes in my home. I have finally found a hardbound sketchbook that is large enough to be comfortable, and I have learned not to cut out pages. I am reminded of an anecdote about Josef Albers, wherein he wouldn’t allow his students to erase or tear out pages from their sketchbooks, because he believed someone would never learn how to correct their mistakes if they weren’t glaringly obvious and left alone to see. So this year I’m leaving all my mistakes and pages I’d sometimes like to rip out alone and I think this is becoming a valuable practice for my art. I’m beginning to see a methodology and the leaps I make from idea to idea. What are the most important things you've learned about color theory? I really enjoyed learning about certain effects, like the Bezold Effect and Color Mixing, and I especially love when examples are given with artists work, and explained because sometimes someone’s art isn’t as compelling without understanding what the reasoning was behind it, Learning the design principles or color strategies behind the work, make it easier to reproduce and helps train your mind to approach your art differently. Like for instance in my triptych, I would’ve never made images like that if it hadn’t been assigned, but using this “color formula” I was able to stretch and explore a new color palette and effect. How has your artwork grown throughout the semester? I think learning new techniques, such as screen printing, and linocut printing has pushed my artwork to a new level. Screen printing and multiple prints, makes you realize that your images will have to push farther than just making something for yourself. I haven’t explored that option yet, as I’m still quite new to all this, but I would like to see myself grow in that direction. I also have come to realize that art is a job, and that it takes many, many hours and much trial and error to get what you want into the format you want but that the risks you take or boundaries you push are worth it.

Art113 01/12/17 1 . What are the most important things you have learned this semester ? So first of all , glad that i have such a good professor and classmate . And also the most important things i have learned about the class is that i got a lot of methods i never tried before , such as spray paint or doing my own book . Those methods that will help me a lot in my future not only in art area . 2 . What are the most important things you have learned about the color theory ? The most important things i have learned about the color theory is that once you getting know more about the definition of things , you can use them better . 3 . How has your artwork grown throughout the semester ? Used different art methods that was interesting and got a lot of things i never learned and tried . Nathaniel Rivas, Art 113 Fall 2017 List of works: 1) Unit 1 collage 2) Unit 2 spray-paint poster 3) Unit 4 painting 4) Unit 6 linocut prints 5) Unit 7 inner page design 6) Unit 8 Consciousness and Color piece 7) Unit 9/10 collaborative project I'd been making art for a couple years and I came in with a pretty good understanding of my creative process already. The most important thing I learned in color theory is the names for the color techniques I've been using, so now when people ask me about my work I can respond with art jargon to sound like I know what I'm doing. Every art piece is exercising that art muscle, so everything I've done in class was valuable practice that made me better at what I do.

What are the most important things you've learned about your creative process?
This semester, I learned that I work best with as much artistic freedom as possible, and limited constraints. I tend to take a bit longer on my pieces than the average person, so it's important for me to allocate an appropriate amount of time to ensure I end up with a quality final piece.
What are the most important things you've learned about color theory?
The most important thing I've learned about color theory is the power of relationships between certain colors, and how impactful color can be in making the viewer feel the full impact of your piece. In potentially applying these theories to my future professional endeavors, I think this knowledge is important for me in pursuing a career in interior design or marketing.
How has your artwork grown throughout the semester?
My artwork has grown in terms of increasing my own awareness of my artistic strengths and specialties, namely with watercolor and collage. I've also increased my own exposure to the artistic styles of others, and have been able to greater appreciate diverse forms of creativity.

Brief Answers:
This semester was a huge learning experience for me. For the entirety of my art career, I’ve continually used graphite and pen, blacks and whites. Exposing myself to these mediums and learning how they work and how to use them has greatly inspired me to deeply explore them. My creative process before and for a long time was going into a piece and just improvising; creating pieces with meaning was barely a thing for me. It was only until eventually applied my emotions and deep passions into my work, but I was still honing that skill. After this class, there’s a lot more planning to my processes to creating my works; considering to include colour in a piece takes a while to meet my liking. I have to take in compositions and different aspects and ideas that’ll not only appeal to my eye and the viewers, but also hit the emotional mark. I now have to consider colours that will evoke a certain emotional response and tie into the theme of the piece. It’s something I never really took into consideration before, but now it’s a big part in my pieces. The most important things I’ve learned about colour theory has definitely been the appeal of complementary colours - it peaks my interest the most and before this class, I had somewhat used it in some of my big pieces. The use of complementary colours and warm/cool colours plays a deal in the perspective and the field of a piece; the background, middleground, and foreground are affected greatly by these elements. Composition wise, it completely changes everything. I lean towards having things pop in my art, my subjects are usually prominent compared to the background and if the figure is a warm colour, then the background is cool and vice versa. I also use complementary colours to make the figure pop out more. I’m really happy with how my artwork has been looking now, in another class I created a piece for a final project in my life drawing class that I was very proud of, and I used many elements from this colour theory class. So I’m very thankful for all the knowledge I’ve gained.

What are the most important things you've learned this semester about your creative process?
During this semester, I've learned that my creative process is effected by my personal interests. If I really enjoy a topic or have as much creative freedom as possible I work a lot better and make things look a lot nicer. Without that, my art tends to lack in quality as its clear that I wasn't enjoying certain parts of the assignment or the progress.
What are the most important things you’ve learned about color theory?
In color theory, I have learned some new coloring techniques that I haven't used or haven't used very often. For example, I used to do pointillism for shading but I never considered using it for a background illusion. I like how it turned out and I will probably try this out more often.
How has your artwork grown throughout the semester?
My artwork has grown mostly thanks to all these projects. While I don't see myself working with some of these mediums very often such as the linocutter or painting for example. Some of the techniques used in these art pieces, I do plan on using for other forms of artwork that I do enjoy making. For example, I like using black outlines in my artwork a little more thanks to the linocut project. I would normally just use a dark blue or brown for the outline.

What are the most important things you've learned this semester about your creative process?
The most important things I've learned about my creative process is to explore myself and recognize myself through art aspects. In the process, I found that some ideas that I never think about it but I made it into my work aftermost.
What are the most important things you've learned about color theory?
I enjoyed when we learning about the color vocabulary. It helps me a lot when appreciating art works. I can figure out what is the idea based on these knowledge. And it also provide idea when creating my own works.
How has your artwork grown throughout the semester?
I found that I am continually free to add more ideas into one work. At the beginning, I prefer to keep the style clear and concise. But in the later project, I tried to integrate more detail and specific theme. Because most things that I learned and I tried in the class are totally new to me and I don't have any experience. So it is a little tough process for me. However, at the end of semester, I think it is a quite good experience.

The most important thing that I've learned about my creative process is that I have been able to create different art pieces in different mediums that I wouldn't usually use.
From being in color theory I've learned that certain colors may not appear to be what they are.
Throughout the semester my art work has grown a little stronger by the amount of time and detail that I have put into each one. They have also grown due to me being a little more open to the different materials that were presented to me and what the objectives were for the certain projects.
